Research into Media jobs (matt)

My main ideal job would be a Editor all though the hours are long and the job very demanding i am able to enjoy editing for long hours, working on the visual and audio quality while working with the raw footage to create a new video is all ways exciting. skills/qualification that are not essential but preferable, these skills are communication and media studies. photography, film, television, fine art, visual art, information technology, multimedia and graphic design. the way into this line of work is to just try different company's and hope that one of the like your work.

Television camera operator
in this role i would do as old by the director, he would tell me how he wants the shot, i would then get the shot the way he described it, to the best of my ability. what is expected s hard work, busy days and preferably one of the following, media studies, preforming arts, photography, film, television, journalism and media production the reason why i chose this job role is because you should try a wide range of jobs when in the media industries. applying for this role may take a while since its a free lance position

Television/film/video producer
in this role i would be in charge of the production from start to end, a producer is in charge of funding, raiding it, spending it and sticking to a budget. the producer is expected to make the production good because if its not the producer is the one who suffers, he'll find it harder to get funding for other projects and such. Qualifications/skills are optional but are communication, media studies, photography/film/television experience, information technology/multimedia, broadcasting. this job revolves partly around people you know and people you could meet but TV stations higher producers to help run things.

as you can see my 3 role choices do not require me to really have any grades. so all 3 jobs are perfect for my education level.

Freedom of information is a part of the freedom of speech, which is a human rights principle this entitles people to be able to say anything they want and not get in trouble. Freedom of information has one difference, it has to be the truth or else its slandering. The most commonly known profession to use freedom of information is a reporter, for TV or a news paper.

Censorship is the complete opposite of freedom of information, censorship is used to block any delecot information like military positions in letters going home just in case the enemy get a hold of it.

Taste and Decency is all about the standard of your viewing, so the visual isn't to sexual in nature or to violent for viewers, that's when the age certificates come in. taste and decency is also aboutmaking sure that visual entetainment dont encourage people to commit crimes.

Task 3: Purposes of research (matt)

Audience data is the count of housholds that view a program within 7 days of airing

Audience profiling is a range of infomation on the viewers, the pofiling is broken down by Demographic profiles (age, sex, income and education) this is so new programs can see if they are hititng thier target audience.

Consumer Behaviour is about, supply and demand and finding out where abouts sertain products would sell better.

Advertising placement or Product placement is a form of advertising where product or brand is placed in view in a movie, play or any other form of visual entertainment. The is done for financial gain for both companys.

Product reach is to do with the distrabution of the product and if its meeting the target audiances needs, which is why audience profiling is needed.

Competitor analysis simple is all about keeping one step aheadof rival companies, by keeping records of Background, Financials, Products, Marketing, Facilities, Personnel, Corporate and marketing strategies

(there is no trail becouse i know it and i have some notes on the topics.)

This Story behind pixar (steve)

Pixar is a CGI animation/Motion picture company, which started in 1979 called Graphics group, this was founded by Ed Catmull and Alvy Ray Smith. Febuary 3rd, 1986 a man named Steve Jobs decided to invest in Graphics group but he had it renamed to pixar. for 20 years Steve Jobs ran "Pixar as its owner and Ceo placing around 50 million into the campany, but after 20 years he sold pixar to "The Walt Disney Company" (the current owner) for 7.4 billion. Pixar opened up thier own branch in 2010 called "Pixar Canada"

Funding for Pixar comes from the fact that pixar have yet to release a movie that doens make them money. other then profits money comes in from The Walt Disney Company, companies who wish to hire Pixar to creat shorts or adverts. Pixar also sell Computer Producs called, Pixar Image Computer and RenderMan

Pixar is the leading animation company since it creted its own systems and then sold them for profit which means they didnt keep up with how technology is advancing, they acctually advanced it them selves. Pixar have been releasing thier films in IMAX, Disney have said that all of thier 3D films will have 7.1 surround sound which is the latest technology.

Qualitative and Quantitative Research

You will create a report explaining the advantages and disadvantages of qualitative and quantitative research, with relevant media examples for each.

Quantitative research - is a way to collect vast amouts of information where the answer is more controlled, gathered from 'X' number of people (eg, multiple choice questions) where the answers can be shown as a percent or a chart (pie, bar, ect)
(short answers)

Qualitative reasearch - this type of research is to gather reliable information from experts in the field of which the research topic is in. this type of information is represented as qoutes and usfull infomation.
(detailed answers)

Gathering the information

Quantitative reasearch - to gather quantitative information you can ask questions to demographic group of people (eg; age, sex, location) or hand out questionaires join or create an online chat group to gather peoples opinions/reviews or create a forum.

Qualitative research - gathering qualitative information is done by gather relitive data from documents or archives. You can conduct inverwiews with experts or some one familier to the topic. the other ways is to use a focus group or have an observation group.

Research strengths

Quantitative research - the data used collected is easliy readable for quantitative information, the information is from a large number of people so its reliable for data that can be used to measure customer attitudes, satisfaction. commitment. it is also data that can be tracked over time for changes.

Qualitative research - qualitative information is built up from proffetionals who veryfy the information from documents and place that information into archives, the information also gathered from people who have first hand expirences with the topic. The information collect is more detailed which can help prove a point

Research weaknesses

Quantitative research - with research there allways problems/weaknesses of that type of research like quantitative research has the weakness of where it collects peoples opinions, those opinions are ussually biased

Qualitative research - qualitative information gathered in a interview can be affected by the questions asked as the information collected is on part of what the interviewee has to offer. when using documents of such the researcher can affect the information collected as they may selected information they find usefull but not all relivent information

use of the research

Quantitative research - gathing information on your advert, you are able to get what people thought about it, how affective it was, how to improve.

Qualitative research - by accessing an archive of successfull adverts you could compose a list of all the effective adverts and then with the information you can incorperate it into your advert and you can avoid the parts of adverts that didnt work.

photoshop CS3, tutorial. (positive images for print)

Alright this is a quick tutorial where I'm going to tell you two ways of getting a image to positive tones so that you can use them to print onto a t-shirt, ect;

So basically, you will need to find a image preferably with a high resolution, this will give you a better result.
place the image into photoshop.

Method 1;
step 1; go to 'Image', 'Mode', 'Greyscale' - flatten the image and discard the colour.
step 2; go to 'Image', 'Mode', 'Bitmap' - leave the resolution as is but change the method to 'Halftone Screen' then click ok. the next box is down to your better judgement, experiment with it.

Method 2;
step 1; go to 'Image', 'Adjustments', 'Desturate' or press Shift + Ctrl + U
step 2; go to 'Image', 'Adjustments', 'Levels' or click Ctrl + L - again its down to your better judgement but try remove the grey tones.

thriller codes and conventions

conventions  (a report on the conventions of the genre (form and content))

the conventions of a thriller will apply to both movies and TV shows that focus on the thriller genre then use it as a sub genre. So to start they will use low/dim lighting this is used to create a darker atmosphere this will enable suspense to be built as the imagination can explore the dangers of what could be lurking in the darkness. Another thing you see is mirrors as some people believe you can see your inner self. something i noticed in thriller is the framed photos on the home walls of the antagonist this images are used to make your subconsciousness feel uncomfortable, this adds to the suspense and the excitement of the film.

When it comes down to thriller film editing you want visually some quick cuts, this is to create a sense of tension and suspense when a thriller begins you would go from establishing shots to some close up and possible a few mid shots, this allows the viewer to build a familiarity with the main character but when the plot thickens you move out to long shots to give the viewer a better view on whats going on.

To create some overall effects you can turn the video into black and white which adds a very sinister look and vibe to the film. the other thing is to have a constant Pleonastic style of music, this will add to the suspence but a commen thriller affect is to stop all non Diegetic sound when the action is going on. somtimes thrillers music stops to trick the viewer to exspect somthing when nothing happens and next time the viewers guard is lowered so they dont see it coming next time you stop the music and do a action scene.

(a definition of the target audience for thrillers)

all films audiences are broken down into age groups and sex, so simply you can make it relate more to males or females this will mean, either more romance or action. the age groups are broken up into the following category's, kids 5-10, tweens 10-14, teens 15-18 or 21, young adults 18-24 or 18-34, adults 25-54 then you get films for the elderly 54+

A target audience can be broken down even more for a Pacific target audience such as, economics, education, religion, nationality, ethnicity, geography and psycho graphic. i don't know the point of these, as getting a certain target audience lowers the number of buyers but i do see that by adding these can lesson the possibility of offending some one.

(a report on the narrative structures (turning points, twists) in a thriller of your choice)

a writer who has hit a wall, who knows a man who can help his situation. FDA approved.
this man has access to a drug that allows you to access all your brain, frankly it makes you smarter.
he states that this drug has been tested and is FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approved (legalised)
curiosity makes the main character take the drug.
"i was blind but now i see" a famous quote from the new testament.
this drug enabled him to learn new stuff, really fast, he finished his book in 4 days.
investment became easy to him, the continuously change rates and he was able to stay ahead.
the drug unlocks your full potential
the twist is that the antagonist find out about the drug and uses more of the drug as leverage to controll the protagonist. the added twist is that the protagonist is able to find a way to keep the intelligence and not to die once you stop taking the pills. as that was the big side affect. in other words he has made the drug more efficient.

(a report on the characterization used in a thriller of your choice)

Eddie Morra is played by Bradley Copper he is the protagonist, his character is down in the dumps average person. He just gets lucky, or does he, with this drug it makes him paranoid, delusional and Hypochondriac. He gets in over his head and has to fight a battle against the antagonist who just wants to control him for his own benefit.

Carl Van Loon is played by Robert De Niro, the character is classed as the antagonist, he wants fortune and power and he belives Eddie Morra is his key to increasing his buisnesses efficency, becouse Eddie is he best at the investment market all becouse of this drug.

...Thrillers provide such a rich literary feast. There are all kinds. The legal thriller, spy thriller, action-adventure thriller, medical thriller, police thriller, romantic thriller, historical thriller, political thriller, religious thriller, high-tech thriller, military thriller. The list goes on and on, with new variations constantly being invented. In fact, this openness to expansion is one of the genre's most enduring characteristics. But what gives the variety of thrillers a common ground is the intensity of emotions they create, particularly those of apprehension and exhilaration, of excitement and breathlessness, all designed to generate that all-important thrill. By definition, if a thriller doesn't thrill, it's not doing its job.
